Window and Door FAQ
Estimates, measuring, materials, labels, permits and getting started. Answers to the questions we hear most.
Call us today615-357-7797What does Music City Door & Window Services do?

Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. Call 615-357-7797 or send us a message and we will set up a free estimate. We look at your openings, talk through your goals and give you clear options.
How do you measure for new windows and doors?
We field-measure every opening, check it for plumb, level and square and note any damage, because windows and doors are made to fit your exact sizes. Our free Measuring Guide shows how to take rough measurements yourself.
Should I repair or replace my windows?
If the frame is sound and the problem is a part or a seal, repair can be a good value. If frames are rotted, many windows are failing or comfort and energy are major concerns, replacement usually makes more sense. Our Repair or Replace Advisor gives you a first view.
What is the difference between vinyl, fiberglass and wood windows?
Vinyl is low-maintenance and often good value. Fiberglass is strong and stable with slim frames. Wood and clad-wood offer warm interiors, with cladding on the outside to cut upkeep. We help you compare them for your home.
Do you work with brands like Andersen, Pella and Marvin?
Our Brands page explains several well-known manufacturers and product lines so you can compare them. Ask us which lines we can supply for your project and we will tell you plainly.
How long does installation take?
Many window and door projects are installed in a day or a few days once the products arrive. Custom orders take longer to build, and we give you a realistic schedule when we measure.
Will installation be messy?
We protect floors and furniture, work neatly and clean up. Removing old windows and doors does create some dust and noise, and we plan around your routine.
Where do you work?
We serve 20 Middle Tennessee cities, including Nashville, Franklin, Brentwood, Murfreesboro, Hendersonville and Gallatin. Browse the service areas page or call us to confirm your address.
How do I get started?

What do U-factor and SHGC mean on a window label?
U-factor measures how well a window resists heat flow, and lower is better for insulation. Solar heat gain coefficient measures how much of the sun’s heat comes through, and the right number depends on which side of the house the window faces. We help you read the label.
What is Low-E glass?
Low-E stands for low emissivity. A very thin coating reflects heat while letting light through, helping keep heat in during winter and out during summer.
Are triple-pane windows worth it?
They add insulation and sound reduction but also cost and weight. They can make sense for noisy locations or very exposed walls, and we help you decide.
Do I need a permit to replace windows or doors?
Often a simple like-for-like replacement does not, but changing the opening size, adding an egress window or altering structure usually does. Rules vary by city, and we help you understand what applies.
Can you match my existing window and door style?
Often very closely. We look at sightlines, grid patterns and trim and help you match them or update the style.
What about windows in homes built before 1978?
Older homes may contain lead-based paint, and federal rules govern how it is handled during work. Ask us how that applies to your home.
How do I care for new windows and doors?
Clean glass and tracks regularly, keep weep holes clear, lubricate hardware and touch up finishes as needed. We give you care tips when we finish.
What if I only need one window or door?
We are happy to help with a single window or door as well as whole-home projects. Call us to talk through your needs.
